Greater Atlanta as a Kingdom Assignment (Jer. 29:7)

Greater Atlanta as a Kingdom Assignment, branded

Seek the peace and prosperity of the city… because if it prospers, you too will prosper (Jeremiah 29:7).”

Greater Atlanta isn’t just where we live, work, and commute – it’s a Kingdom assignment

God’s instruction through Jeremiah wasn’t given to people living in ideal conditions. It was given to exiles. Yet God’s strategy was surprising: engage the city, pray for it, and work for its good. In other words, don’t withdraw….LEAN IN.

Civic Responsibility
Loving the city starts with responsibility. Kingdom-minded leaders don’t outsource care for their city; they take ownership. That might look like ethical leadership in your organization, advocating for just systems, mentoring emerging leaders, or showing up consistently where others disengage. Civic responsibility isn’t about politics; it’s about presence, integrity, and stewardship.

Prayerful Awareness
Prayer shifts how we see our city. When we pray for Greater Atlanta, we become more attentive to its pain points and possibilities. Prayer tunes our hearts to what God already sees: economic gaps, leadership fatigue, generational opportunity, and redemptive potential waiting to be activated. Awareness precedes action.

Place-Based Calling
God doesn’t call us generically; He calls us specifically. Your industry, neighborhood, boardroom, classroom, or nonprofit role isn’t accidental. It’s a strategic placement. Place-based calling asks a deeper question: Why has God entrusted me with influence here, now, in this city?

Reflection

  • What does loving Greater Atlanta require of you personally – not hypothetically, but practically?
  • Where might God be inviting you to engage more intentionally: through prayer, leadership, service, collaboration, or courageous action?

Suggested Prayer
Lord, thank You for placing me in Greater Atlanta for such a time as this. Open my eyes to see this city as You do. Show me where to pray, where to serve, and where to lead with courage and humility. Let my work contribute to the peace and flourishing of this city for Your glory. Amen.

Growth Activity
This week, choose one specific expression of engagement:

  • Pray daily for one sector of the city (your zipcode, your neighborhood, business, education, government, families, etc.).
  • Initiate one meaningful conversation about faith, values, or purpose at work or in your community.
  • Identify one way your professional influence can contribute to the city’s flourishing.
  • Write it down—and act on it.
